Both new to Brisbane, Bonnie & Paul met by absolute chance at a restaurant along the Brisbane River and hit it off immediately, talking and laughing the night away under the Storey Bridge. Together for three years when they were on a guided tour of Dublin Castle in Ireland, and while wandering around the Gallery of Romanticism, Paul suddenly got down on one knee and asked Bonnie to marry him!
What led you to decide on your Wedding venue?
We absolutely love going to Byron Bay to unwind, relax and eat all the beautiful local foods. When looking for venues we instantly fell in love with the Fig Tree Restaurant and Rooms. Everything about the venue is timeless and bohemian. We loved hearing about the history of the property and it is easy to see how much the owner loves weddings and celebrating love. We were blown away with the view of Byron as you walk down to the fig tree, the fresh and delicious food they grow right in their backyard and catch fresh from the ocean. We also loved the idea of an outdoor wedding, enjoying food and good wine with all our loved ones under the stars. It was a dream!
Your most favourite moment/s of the day:
The ceremony. Locking eyes down the aisle, holding hands, exchanging vows and rings, in a beautiful place, under a a fig tree, surrounded by our nearest and dearest.
What was your favourite detail/s about the day?
There are so many details we are so in love with! The bohemian gown, ths Scottish kilts, the pampas grass installations and afghani rugs, the gluten free vegan wedding cake, our champagne tower, the kombi vans, our wedding photos. Just everything.
How long did it take for you to find and how was your dress/suit shopping experience overall?
I fell in love with Harlie gown by Made With Love in their gorgeous boutique in Sydney. It was the first dress I tried on! Paul found the Socttish Kilts from the one kilt maker in Brisbane – they were brilliant.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage for us is about celebrating that we found one another, loving and supporting each other and building a beautiful life together.
Any classic stories you want to share from the day?
We had so much fun getting our wedding photos! Our amazing wedding photographer lead us to the most gorgeous settings, from abandoned train tracks to glowy hills in the sunset. We travelled in vintage kombi vans and sipped on champagne, it was an incredible experience!
What advice would you offer to other couples planning a Wedding?
Don’t rush the process and try not to stress-out about the little details. Take time to pause, and reflect upon the very exicting fact that you are marrying your human!
Wedding songs
Ceremony: Tom Francis played Halleluiah with his guitar while Bonnie walked down the aisle.
Just married / champagne tower: Angus and Julia Stone – Chateau as we walked down the aisle and enjoyed a champagne tower after being married.

"Our wedding theme was all about the romance!"
