Engaged after 8 years together, an engagement shoot on top of Mount Ngungun & a private Wedding ceremony in Maleny - these two share such a special connection & now it is officially forever!

Meeting as neighbours when Rubi was 16 and Lance was 24 when he moved next door with his one year old son. It wasn't until several years later that Rubi realised that she no longer saw Lance as her daggy neighbour (Sorry Lance, she says!) & knew that she was in love with him.

Never seeing the neccessity of a Wedding at first, Rubi & Lance lived together for 7 years in their own home co-raising Bailey and sharing a wonderful life together. This was to change with a romantic dinner on V Day!
A walk to the lake after a dinner out & Lance tells Rubi he loved her very much, "I said I loved him too and he replied with “well since you are still in love with me, will you marry me?” I was in shock I couldn’t believe it, I laughed and realised why he had been so sweaty at dinner!" Rubi tells us.
How did you decide on your Wedding venue? We already knew that we wanted to host a less formal dinner party at the house we had booked to stay at so we just needed to book our ceremony place. This avoided the midnight curfew and cleaning charges many venues we did look at had.
We came across a place called Half Moon Hideaway which looked so calming and happy. The name itself won us over since our cliche couple quote is “love you to the moon and back” which Lance used to try and win my attention when we weren’t even together yet!
We read online that the property owner Gillian had a pony named Angel, my dad’s name - we just had to go have a look. As soon as we saw the views of the Glasshouse Mountains and then meeting Gillian who is so lovely and no fuss - we booked the place then and there.
What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme? We wanted an outdoor, natural Wedding on the grass with a beautiful view. Our theme turned out to be quite rustic and the burgundy colour we used through the flowers and for the groomsmen’s suits seemed to just fit nicely with the natural look and feel.
Favourite details
1. Our cake. We loved our cake and that it was made from scratch by my beautiful mum.
2. Our signing table. The signing table we used belonged to my grandma when she was still alive, it looked stunning and fit in so nicely and it was so nice to have a piece of my grandparents there.
3. Our favourite groomsmen. Lances son Bailey was one of our groomsmen, Lance felt so proud to have him standing there with us, as did I. It has brought us closer as a family and really strengthened the bond between father & son.
Special moment from the day: Taking a moment to ease my nerves before walking down the aisle, my Dad had prepared some jokes just for this. He loves to make people laugh and feel at ease. When my maid of honour asked Dad for a joke he was most pleased: the laughs were real & he felt like he had done his job. The music began and we each walked down the hill to the aisle a little more relaxed & still laughing in our heads about Dad's 'poo' jokes!
Tell us about your dress/suit shopping experience: Without wanting a huge fuss or to spend over a certain amount of money, I looked online. I kept coming across this dress by Made With Love Bridal called ‘Frankie’ - she was out of my budget so I kept scrolling past. After days of looking, I had saved a photo of the Frankie dress on my phone several times without realising - the budget went out the window and it was the first and only dress I tried on. Moral of the story... shop with your heart and not your budget!
Hallenstein Brothers at North Lakes provided Lance's & all of the suits and we had the same assistant each time we went in - Jeremy went above and beyond & was the perfect mix of professional & fun, making sure Lance was comfortable.
What does marriage mean to you? Our photographer shared a quote on social media that sums up perfectly what both Lance & myself think marriage is about.
The quote is by Author Barbara De Angelis and goes “Marriage is not a noun; it's a verb. It isn't something you get. It's something you do. It's the way you love your partner every day.” We love it because for us marriage isn’t about our wedding day, it’s about all of the little things that we have done for each other over the past 9 years and will continue to do every day with each other in mind.
What advice would you offer to other couple's when planning their Wedding day? Plan it for you. At the start of our planning, we wrote down our vision & for us - it all came back to the feel of the day. To do this helped way more than we ever thought it would. Trends come and go, but the way you feel on the day is what you’re going to remember the most. Even the photos you look back on will carry a feeling so it’s important you make it a good one. It was a helpful tool in every decision we made and I’m glad we took the time to do it.
