how did the two of you meet?
We grew up in a small town called Bruce Rock together. I was two years below him at school and he first “asked me out” when I was in year 8. 2007 I think. LOL. There were about 15 kids in the high school so luckily, we both thought each other were “hot” (as much as one can be hot when they are a child haha).
Ricky was fortunate enough to be on my school bus for a couple of years at BRDHS. Prior to that he was always two grades above me at school so we didn’t have any classes together until I got to year 8, which meant we had to do ballroom dancing for phys-ed. Thankfully he always chose me so perhaps this is where the romance started?
how long were you together before your engagement?
We have parted ways a couple of times and always found our way back- even if the whole town was sick of the Ricky & Beaudie on again off again show- haha!
The final time (6 years ago) we said to each other, we either stick it out and get married or we never speak to each other again and here we are thankfully.
tell us about the proposal:
We went to Mauritius as a family for my Dad’s 50th. It was our first overseas holiday as a family so that was exciting enough in itself. Ricky and my Dad really got into the holiday spirit and drank the plane dry on the way over so I was ready to send him home the first night. Things improved dramatically. My Mum, sister and Paige (Jaxon’s girlfriend) all decided on the Saturday night we would get dressed up for dinner and make it a special night just because. We spent the day lounging around the resort and then started getting ready to be at the cocktail bar on the point for 6pm like we had done every night. The boys went first and we weren’t far behind. When I got there, I walked in and saw my dad and Jaxon sitting at the table that “wasn’t our usual” so I said come on, let’s go to our normal spot and watch the sunset.

I busted on through the bar, grabbed the cocktail menu and saw Ricky standing in front of these big letters that spelled out LOVE. This wasn’t alarming as they were already there and we had seen them before. I walked over to him and proceeded to tell him to get out of someone else’s lovely set up - there were rose petals, candles and a bunch of roses. He said, “I will, let’s just take a quick photo”
Superficial and blonde me said “ok quick lol”
Paige took the photo, then I realised what was going on!!! He got down on one knee and said, “So do you want to put the cocktail menu down.. Will you marry me?”
Well holy shit. I just about fell over. Everyone knew about it the whole time except my Mum and I, which is huge - she knows everything. I also remember my Dad saying as I was walking out to the deck “Bridgette get your camera out”....
I now know why. It was nice that it was a surprise for mum too. Then there were tears of disbelief and joy obviously haha, and then champagne!
The best part was sitting having a drink after listening to all the drama that happened to get to that point.
Ricky had gone to Matildah’s house months before and said let’s go ring shopping- she was in the middle of exams and usually nothing gets her away from the books, but this did! Ricky designed the ring with some help from Matildah but her job didn’t end there. She had to take the ring with her through customs etc. in case I saw it in Ricky and I’s shared suitcase. She had it in her handbag the whole time with a post it note saying “engagement ring in here, please be discreet”
Ricky and I were the last ones to the airport and I was annoyed we were going to be late, but I know now, it was in case she got stopped and had to empty her bag, I wouldn’t see a Linneys Box!
Once we got to the resort in Mauritius, Paige, Matildah and Ricky organised Valerie, the event coordinator to have roses, candles and champagne for the event and made sure the entire Bodrum Blue (the Turkish inspired restaurant on the water) was cleared and reserved for us.
I also nearly sprung them the day before we flew out when I arrived home early. Ricky had just put the ladder away from getting the ring out of the roof space to give to Matildah to take over. I thought it was weird her car was at our house, but her quick thinking saw her come up with the excuse of she needed a beach bag, and then couldn’t stay to chat because she had to go to the vet, and Ricky diverted my attention from suspecting anything by taking me outside to show me the latest plant the dog had wrecked.
Long story but I love it because I didn’t think he had quite that much romance in him.
what led you to decide on Fraser Gallop Estate for your wedding venue?
It was the first place we looked at and instantly fell in love. The grandeur of the house and the grounds was breathtaking. My dad and Ricky settled on it before I even had the chance to really think things through. I loved that it was somewhere we had complete control over as we got to bring everything in from the marquee, to the toilets, the drinks and the food. The location made a perfectly stunning shell to create our dream vision.
what was the inspiration behind your wedding theme?
I wanted something timeless and elegant but modern. From the start I knew I wanted simplicity but on a grand scale if that makes sense! I wanted a few key WOW moments and the fine details to blend seamlessly. My mum helped a lot with the vision and made sure no idea went without being thought over thoroughly and really explored. I think this approach helped me figure out what I didn’t like and left us with something magical. Ricky was happy for me to be the driving force behind the creative because he knows I’m such a control freak and nothing would be done on a whim, so he trusted me wholly thankfully!

favourite moment:
My favourite moment of the day was hearing Ricky’s vows. We aren’t a couple who are known for PDA so it was really cute to hear him pour his heart out when it mattered the most. I also loved the speeches. We have such an epic group of family and friends and because we have been together for so long it was nice to relive some of the history with them all and see just how much has happened before we got to our wedding day.
favourite detail:
I don’t think I can narrow it down haha! I loved every single part of the day. Our florals were beautiful, the chandeliers and marquee were stunning, the marble furniture was amazing and our cake was next level. My mum made our cake and it tasted even better than it looked. We brainstormed a few ideas but ultimately Ricky wanted it to taste good. My dress and veil were probably my big highlight. It was a Galia Lahav couture gown and matching veil. It was stunning and no one expected me to wear something like that so it was really fun seeing everyones reactions.
how was your dress/suit shopping experience overall?
Dress shopping was so easy!! I went straight to Dion for Brides with my mum and sister and my gown was the third dress I tried on. I sat on it for a few days and went back the next weekend and purchased it. I couldn’t picture myself in anything else. The boys suits were also super easy. We knew we wanted a black tux with satin so it wouldn't date, but also looked modern and sleek. We got the boys suits from Suit Vault in Subiaco. Ricky got his custom made so he felt a bit special as it’s mostly about us girls isn't it- haha.
what resources did you find helped you the most during your wedding planning?
I loved reading wedding blogs and seeing what real couples had experienced, however, again- I’m a control freak and have OCD tendencies so I made sure I was all over everything. I am known to be a spreadsheet queen haha. I think that's why I found the entire planning process fun because I had a reason to have multiple colour coded spreadsheets!! My motto in life is try and be as prepared as you can- that way you can account for most scenarios and if something doesn’t go right, you’ve done everything you could so don’t sweat it!

My little cousins caught marron from the dam and one of them ended up as the star attraction on the dancefloor for a short while haha!
