Emma + Scott officially 'fell for each other' six months later though at a music festival after meeting through their friendship group. "We just felt so comfortable with each other and Scott invited me down south on holiday with his family only a few days after the festival. Our relationship just sky rocketed from there." Emma shares.

how long were you together before your engagement?
We dated for a year before Scott proposed. We knew from very early on that we were meant for each other and had discussed becoming engaged for ages. But I thought we wouldn't do it until at least three years or so. Scott had other plans and just couldn't wait to make me his wife. We were engaged for over a year.

tell us about the proposal:
When Scott proposed I was stuffing my face with Doritos, which made for an embarrassing but funny story. In memory of this event, we thought it appropriate to have mini Dorito bags as a midnight snack for our guests at the end of the night.

what led you to decide on your Wedding venue?
We booked Stonebarn Lodge in Pemberton for our wedding before we had even been there to view the place. It was such a beautiful venue and ticked all the boxes, that we had no doubts about it being our wedding location. When we finally got a chance to drive there and see the place, it took our breath away. It fit our rustic themed wedding perfectly and the fact that we could stay with our families on the block, made it all the more appealing.

what was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme?
When we met with our planners to discuss the overall theme of the wedding, our main ideas focused around a relaxed, rustic atmosphere. Our main aim for the day was to celebrate, celebrate, celebrate!

We wanted a party that accommodated all our loved ones and made sure that everyone had the best time. We wanted a beautiful wedding that included lots of laughter, fabulous hearty food and dancing.

favourite moments
Having Scott’s grandma do a reading at the ceremony would have to be one of the best parts of the day. We choose a reading from Winnie the Pooh, which held fond childhood memories for both of us, and became a very emotional part of the day. Another significant memory of the day would have to be announcing that we were 14 weeks pregnant to all our friends and family. Scott announced it during his speech at the end of the night and it was such a great way to celebrate and end the night.

favourite details
Being an art teacher, I wanted to have some sort of creative contribution to our wedding. This would firstly help us financially, but also help make our wedding even more personal and special. I handwrote all the signage onto stained plywood. I also spent a whole night handwriting lyrics onto brown butchers paper to create an original table decoration to sit under all the food on the big day.

Other projects that made the day all the more special included my mum sewing 20 plus pillow cases and my sister in law using her expertise as an archaeologist, to lovingly restore my maternal grandmother’s horseshoe that she used on her wedding day. My mum was keen to be creatively involved in the wedding and constructed my veil for the day. She also sewed a piece of my grandmother’s favourite blue dress onto some lace and ribbon that we tied around the bouquet, and acted as the “something blue” for the wedding. Lastly, to honour those people who were no longer with us, we framed a number of photos of loved ones and displayed them at the ceremony.

how was your dress/suit shopping experience overall?
I went to a few places first with my bridesmaid to find a dress. It was pretty overwhelming, considering I had worked in a bridal shop before, so I thought I would handle it alright. I thought I had found the dress and asked my mum and Scott's mum to see it before I purchased it. And their reaction was awful. They didn't like it at all and that made it really hard for me to continue looking. I left it for a while and then finally got the courage to look again, but only took my sister with me. I found a dress and made sure I was 100% sure before I let anyone else see it, so they wouldn't sway my decision. And then I got pregnant. So we had to alter the dress to make sure it fit with my new body changes.

Scotts suit was easy in comparison. The best man had a contact that he had used for suit making. He came to our house and measured all the boys up and they could custom it to their liking. He even bought a bottle of whiskey for the boys to enjoy while getting measured.

what resources did you find helped you the most during your Wedding planning?
DUO Events were our best resources! Couldn't have achieved our wedding without this duo!

advice
If you are planning on a destination wedding, my advice would be to hire wedding planners. At first we were skeptical about paying money for planners, but hiring Katie and Erica was the best thing we could have done. I sincerely believe that our wedding would not have gone as smoothly or be as beautiful if we didn’t have planners. They took away the majority of the stress of organising each element and are hundred percent worth the spending the money!
