Meeting in 2013 while travelling the Greek Islands, Sarah and Glen both happened to be from Perth, although Glen was working on the East Coast at the time. After getting to know one another via long distance over a few months these two decided to take a leap of faith and for Sarah to move across to Townsville in North QLD.
How long were you together before your engagement?
18 months
Tell us about the proposal:
Glen and I became engaged in 2015 when we were holidaying on Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays. When we were up at the lookout overlooking Whitehaven Beach Glen got down on one knee and proposed. I had no idea he was planning to propose so it was a big surprise. The private boat he had organised then took us down to a quiet stretch of the beach where we enjoyed a champagne picnic – it was very romantic!
Your most favourite moment/s of the day:
One of our favourite moments of the day was exchanging the vows we had written for each other, in front of all our friends and family. We were married by a good friend of ours which made the ceremony even more special.
Another favourite moment of the day was our first dance. Glen and I laughed throughout most of our dance which I think was a combination of nerves and because we were having so much fun! Those moments were captured by our photographer brilliantly, and looking back at those images brings us so much happiness.
What was your favourite detail/s about the day?
We were absolutely blown away by the bouquets and floral arrangements that Alisha from The Bohemian Flower Collective created for our wedding day. She nailed our brief perfectly and created the most stunning arrangement to hang over our bridal table. Edison Events installed some pendant lighting amongst the florals, and the overall look was just so beautiful!
We also had a live band for our entertainment (The White Tree) who were absolutely amazing and had all of the guests on the dance floor!
Any classic stories you want to share from the day?
The father of the groom leading the whole dancefloor in dancing to an awesome rendition of ‘Proud Mary’, performed by The White Tree band.
What advice would you offer to other couples planning a Wedding?
Our advice is to remember what the day is about and not to get caught up in the small details. Do your research and invest in vendors which you can trust will deliver on the day and make it low stress and seamless.
Any stand out vendors for the day?
All of our vendors were fantastic on the day. A special shout out to our florist, Alisha from The Bohemian Flower Collective who was an absolute dream to work with. She stayed back to move some standing arrangements from the ceremony into the reception room and to ensure it was set up how we wanted. We would recommend her in a hearbeat!
We were also really blown away by the Vines staff and especially our wedding co-ordinator Jenny. The whole day ran so smoothly and the service provided by the staff was exceptional.
Wedding songs:
Processional – “Halo” by Beyonce
Recessional – “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
First dance song – “Can’t Help Falling in Love” - cover by Haley Reinhart

What led you to decide on your Wedding venue?
Glen and I always wanted our wedding ceremony and reception to be held at the same venue and we loved the idea of getting married in the Swan Valley. We chose The Vines Resort and Country Club as our venue and the Garden Pavilion and Cabernet Room as our ceremony and reception spaces. The Garden Pavilion has a beautiful outdoor chapel feel and the Cabernet room has large windows overlooking the golf course and was the perfect size for our more intimate wedding. There are wedding co-ordinators at the resort who are extremely friendly, accommodating and professional. As soon as we met with them we knew that our wedding would be in safe hands and the day would run smoothly.
What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme?
We wanted a really elegant and romantic vibe to our wedding and were drawn to a colour scheme of navy, burgundy, blush and gold. We styled the whole wedding ourselves so to see it come together so perfectly was an amazing feeling, and we are so incredibly grateful for all of our amazing vendors who helped our vision come to life!

How long did it take for you to find and how was your dress/suit shopping experience overall?
I purchased my dress from the White Wolf Bridal when they brought their trunk show to Perth in 2018. Anna Campbell had just released her Wanderlust collection. The lovely Chantelle from WWB helped me to choose the Amelie dress and recommended the perfect Anna Campbell accessories to complete the look. Amelie was one of the first dresses I tried on at my appointment and I instantly knew the gown was the one. The bohemian sleeves and lovely 3D flower embellishments were so unique and exactly the style I wanted for our wedding.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage is about sharing your life with the person who encourages you to be the best person you can be both as an individual and as a couple. It’s the commitment to love and work hard for one another every single day. It encompasses trust, loyalty, respect and compromise. And lastly, marriage to us means building a life and family together that’s happy and fulfilling.
