STYLED ECLECTIC WEDDING INSPIRATION SHOOT BOHO FLORALS IN THE WILDS OF SOMEPLACE ALBANY WA

Timber beams, exposed brick walls, rustic floor boards, natural light and a feel of times gone by - The Old Auction room Albany is a building that evokes creativity in its own right. The natural, rustic hues of the building and its wares provided much of the inspiration for the shoot. The perfect foundation for a warehouse vibe with a boho-luxe edge; a natural, golden color palette; and a focus on textures.

The dried floral creations were also central to the colours I chose to work with- muted, natural tones from dried natives, creating beautiful textures. These subtle tones meant the textures of the building and furniture could also speak for themself, without being over-run by any bold colors. The vintage brass pots, lanterns, animal skulls and geodes were contrasted against the luxury of the agate coasters, gold cutlery, glass cloches and rattan chargers. The focus on textures extended to the stationery with beautiful textured white card, torn edges, gold leaf detailing, flowing script and gold font. Candle light and festoon lighting reflected off the surfaces of the hand polished cutlery, brass ornaments and those edgy toffee shards, sitting in hand-piped, vanilla, Italian-meringue buttercream and roasted hazelnut. What was the main inspiration behind this shoot concept?

Old Auction Room retails vintage, industrial, ethnic, found wares. Its timber beams, exposed brick walls, unfinished floor boards and natural light provided the perfect foundation for a warehouse vibe with a boho-luxe edge. The natural colour palette of the building was weaved through the whole shoot.

What are some of the highlights you had during the shoot process:
The highlight of the shoot process was seeing Old Auction Room launch their Old Auction Room Events space not quite a year later. They’ve now screened off the area we did the shoot in and have established themselves as an Event Space for weddings, workshops and local events.

I also enjoyed finding out about the history of the building. Originally one of Albany’s first General Merchants, it was erected in the late 1800’s. I later found out that it once housed beer kegs, so maybe the old building always wanted to party...

Did you face any challenges on the day?
The whole shoot was such a breeze and the entire day just radiated a relaxed, calm vibe- a credit to the vendors involved.

What led you to decide on this venue/shoot location?
I moved to the Great Southern a few years ago and the instance I walked into the Old Auction Room, I thought, Yes! I NEED to do a warehouse shoot here! And why is this place not hosting events?! It’s such an evocative building and there is nothing quite like it in the Albany area.

What was your favourite detail about the shoot day?
The install created by Lindy of Lush Floral Design was definitely the star of the show. The muted, natural tones from dried foliage and natives created beautiful textures and was central to the colours I chose to work with.

Favourite moment/s from the day:
Standing back once it was all done was a very special moment. This was my first collaboration and my first experience of what is possible when you’re given absolute creative freedom and aren’t restricted by any demands of a client. My best advice to brides would be to choose vendors and stylists you’re vibing with and then trust their creativity. Let your day evolve naturally and the magic will happen.
