"Paul & I met on a night out in Airlie Beach, our mutual friends were a couple and I had mentioned to my girlfriend that Paul was cute, she passed it on to her partner and he shared the information. They take the credit to this day of setting us up. We woke up late the next day innocently cuddling and we haven’t been apart since." Rebekah & Paul
Together for just under 4 years when Rebekah and Paul went for a hike at one of their local hiking spots and decided to try a new track they hadn’t done before. We sat on the beach for a while when were finished and after getting lost, when Rebekah went to start walking back, Paul quickly pulled this big ring box he had successfully been concealing the whole time and he got on one knee. "I was so surprised I burst into tears and of course said yes!" Tells Rebekah.
What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme? We have a laidback boho style in our home so wanted to keep that with our Wedding theme and kept it neutral with earthy colours
Your most favourite moment/s of the day: Walking back down the aisle together and seeing everyone so happy for us and feeling so much love in the room. That, and our first dance.
How long did it take for you to find your dress? I knew exactly what I wanted from seeing it on social media before we got engaged so it made for an easy choice once it happened. I flew down to the Gold Coast the next month and had an appointment at the amazing Grace Loves Lace showroom. The experience was a special moment as I tried on a few different dresses before the one I'd had in mind, just to try something different but was disappointed with how they looked so it put me off. When I put it on, emotion came over me and I burst into tears when I saw myself. With my mother there and the assistant so excited for me, it was a memorable moment. The dress was so comfortable with its beautifully detailed stretch lace it was easy to wear and the wings made my boho style subtly dramatic.
What does marriage mean to you? Marriage to us is the final step of showing each other how much we love one another and wanting to be committed for life. Also having an adventurous life as a couple that we can grow together through it all and to be each other’s best friend.
Any classic stories you want to share from the day? Rebekah - During my Dad's speech, one of our guests accidentally leant against the platter table and it came crashing down mid speech creating a big scene. It was hilarious, everyone was worried about what my reaction was going to be but with it mostly eaten and making it a memorable moment of the night, I laughed it off. Our MC is a lawyer and he cracked a joke offering his legal services to anyone injured, (which nobody was) it was classic and we won’t forget it.
Any classic stories you want to share from the day? What advice would you offer to other couples planning a Wedding? Start a separate savings account for the wedding, set an amount you will both add to it each pay and stick to it. This made it easy for us to pay for invoices and the account we opened up we earnt interest on as we added to it so that was a plus.
Any stand out vendors for the day? Our vendors were awesome to deal with and pulled off exactly what we wanted and had discussed with them. Our photographers Trent and Jessie are the most beautiful people, it was nice to have a couple who you could see love each other as much as they do be there to share your special day and to capture it for you. We are over the moon with our photos and they also captured our guests perfectly. Also Carissa, our videographer has filmed the moments we forgot about and are able to watch back to remind us of how amazing the day was.
Bruce, our DJ is work friend who runs his own company on the side after retiring from his days of playing in The Valley. We wanted a party vibe for the reception and let him go wild with the lighting which he had a field day with and weren’t we happy he did. We couldn’t fault the music or lighting on the night, it really made the atmosphere.
Someone that went above and beyond? Rebekah - I asked my girlfriend Kailee to be the coordinator for the day as I’m a control freak and with not being able to be there for the set up I knew she was the perfect person to have it how we wished and to have everything under control. If any problems arose she dealt with them and I was none the wiser. I think that was a big factor with us walking away from the day feeling like it went exactly how we had wished and she was to thank for it.
I recommend if other brides don’t have a wedding planner to be there on the day, to ask someone close to them that they can trust to make sure it goes smoothly. I know they say whatever happens on the day is out of your control and to not stress about it. But if it doesn’t happen at all or if you don’t know about it that’s the cherry on top!
