A romantic DIY Wedding ceremony in Margaret River featuring handmade EVERYTHING!
Mila and Jesse met on the beaches of Hawaii and had a vision for a boho DIY Wedding and created a full DIY love-fest set among the wide open spaces of Three Towns Stay, Metricup. After a romantic first look, Mila and Jesse walked down the aisle together, well, across the paddock. Mila had styled the ceremony location herself and the combination of grass, ribbon and feathers was perfection. Then there was their tipi arbour!!

Tell us a little bit about the proposal: When we went on our two longest journeys (Mila started from Russia to California & Jesse from Australia to Indonesia), we met at the beginning of the road on the island of Oahu Hawaii to the sound of the biggest waves. On acquaintance we had only one day, and then other islands and countries. But everything became clear at first glance and a smile. So then we started our 5 months of relationship at a distance by chat seriously 24 hours every day, and a crazy race for a visa so that we could be back together.
We managed to fly from one continent to another Australia-Bali-Russia and back. On our first trip to Russia and Jesse's acquaintance with my family, he could not resist the cold snow forest and fell on his knee by accident, and I immediately yelled "YES"... joking. With a trembling voice full of love, Jesse asked "Are you ready to be my number one all your life ".... and then tears of happiness, kisses and warm embraces, very very warm hugs as the temperature was minus 15 degrees.
Any funny stories leading up to the Wedding day? Our Wedding was handmade by us. It was all one big fun project to collect wood sticks from the forest, pallets from the Bunnings, Ebay shopping and many other funny things that makes us feel even closer to each other.
How did you decide on your Wedding venue? We knew from start that we wanted our celebration of love to be with our favourite people in a house with a big backyard. I did research for a week online and found Jesse's dream place, but Jesse's parents were also asking us to look at a friends' property first and can you imagine - it was same place which one I had found from the 1000 houses online! So it was just meant to be.
What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme? Our very natural lifestyle.
What was your favourite detail about the day? The fairylights in our party area! We ordered around 300m of lights and spent a good 2 hours putting them all in the right spot, but by evening time its was just magical!
Tell us about your Wedding dress: It took 30 minutes to find my perfect dress and 25 years to find the love of my life - Jesse. I went into the first shop with my mum in our home town Saint -Petersburg (Russia) tried 7 dresses and number 8 was the one. It wast the most beautiful dress, the most stylish or modern – I got this particular dress because when I wear it, I feel full of inspiration, I couldn’t stop dancing and smiling and for me this was exactly how I wanted to feel being Bride.
What was your favourite moment of the day: Our ceremony and the moment when we walked from the house to the Wedding arch! Seeing the smiles of all our favourite people made us cry from happiness! We had a long ceremony with many speeches, kisses and jokes and lasted for about 35 minutes. And of course the I DO!
What does marriage mean to you? Happiness should be shared! All your experiences, bad days, good days, amazing memories, happiest memories - it means more if you share it with someone who you love like crazy...
Are there any funny stories from the day? All classic stories – how mum forgot the rings at home and had to run them to the ceremony, the bestman speech and our photoshoot when we were lying in a kangaroo shit (Laughter)
Do you have any advice for other couples planning a Wedding? Keep in mind what your first ideas were about styling and location of your Wedding and - do it! Don't continually watch instagram, pinterest, don’t follow all of the Wedding pages to try to find something what you like. You alredy knew it - its your lifestyle, your world around you and just let it all reflect that - it's YOUR special day! - Mila, the glowing Bride.
Wedding songs:Jesse really surprised me and created all of our amazing Wedding dance by himself and chose “Island in the Stream” for our first dance song - which is just our melody.
