CARLEE X DENNIS

TO THE AISLE AUSTRALIA SYDNEY WEDDING VENUE
Carlee and Dennis marry each other at The Springs, Peats Ridge in front of 100 of their nearest and dearest after being together for 3 and a half years. "Dennis completely took me off guard. It was a Thursday night and I was anxiously driving home from having x-rays to determine that I had broken my finger. Dennis was expecting me to call him upon my arrival, however, I forgot to do this and proceeded to rush through the front door without an inkling of a warning to him.

As I walked up the stairs to the living area I noticed that some vases were missing from the cabinet – odd, however thought nothing of it. I continued up into the living room and down the hallway. As I stepped into the living room, there, in the middle of a thousand red and white rose petals was Dennis – handsomely dressed in a suit. Behind him were the words – Will you marry me? I was shocked, unbelievably shocked. I literally dropped to the floor. Dennis then had to tell me to walk over to him.

He spoke lovely words and then asked for me to be his wife. Of course I said yes! He then placed the most gorgeous diamond and sapphire ring upon my finger. We then laughed, cried and enjoyed the rest of the night in our first home, drinking champagne and celebrating. The next day we went to the Kangaroo Valley for the weekend. It was the most perfect end to a wonderful surprise. So, as I mentioned above I had broken my finger the night before the proposal at a game of Oz tag. Dennis at the time was extremely concerned at which particular finger I had managed to injure - my middle finger on the right. Lucky for him!SYDNEY WEDDINGS HELLO SWEETHEART AU REAL WEDDING FEATURE

When we were choosing our Wedding venue, we knew were after an industrial vibe, with a garden to have the ceremony in. We wished to not have to travel too far as we have family and friends in Sydney, Hunter and on the Central Coast. The moment I stepped into The Springs I pictured marring Dennis. It was the perfect location. A little different to other wedding venues that I had seen before and perfectly located in the centre from Sydney to the Hunter." Carlee + Dennis

What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme? The Wedding theme was industrial with copper accents. I wanted to create a Wedding that wasn’t anything that I had been to before. The location fit the brief perfectly. We are minimalistic people and the reception was already how I pictured it to be without needed to bring in decorations. I love copper. So we added little copper details to the candles, the flowers and the cake.

It keeping with the industrial theme. I asked my step dad to make the circular arch for the ceremony. We wanted something circular and that was large enough to be able to fit into all photos. He was a superstar. Created the arch out of an old trampoline frame – if you can believe it!

What was your favourite detail about the day? The arch from the ceremony as I mentioned above would be up there!

I loved the flowers! Again was wanting to incorporate Copper into the flowers to tie the theme together. Lauren from Octopus’ Garden did a wonderful job of this! Got my vibe straight away and only after one quick coffee meeting 3 weeks out from the wedding.

My dress! It was divine. Wanted to be a little dramatic.

My shoes! Valentino – the only designer thing I own.

The cement and copper candles on the tables were made by me and also were the favours for the guests to take home.

How long did it take for you to find your dress? Shopping for my dress was one of the best days of my life. It was 9 months before the wedding and took just one day. It was a day with my 3 bridesmaids, my maid of honour and my Mum. We started at Double Bay visited a small boutique and fell in love with a dress that I would never of thought that I would wear. We were shocked. Was this it? We left and then headed to our booking at David Jones in the City.

The boutique was stunning! Overlooking Hyde Park, carpeted and fragranced with perfume. It was the ultimate experience. We were greeted by our sales girl and then whisked away into a suite with curtains and a platform. After trying on about 4 dresses, I then stood into the one. A strapless mermaid gown, with a tulle and lace fishtail that came out from the knee. It had a long train that was layers upon layers of the most delicate lace and tulle I have ever seen. I stood on the platform then was revealed to my bridal entourage. Many tears were shed and I thought that this is it. This was the one. We cried and laughed and then left smiling and headed to celebrate with champagne as I made the decision. Pronovias was the winner, I said Yes to the Dress!

What does marriage mean to you? Marriage, to me, means laughter. Laughing with each other and at each other. Its about being able to be you – all the ugly and true bits. To be honest and to be open.  Its about growing old with someone, to love them for their flaws and to support them in all lives ups and downs. Marriage is a journey, a new page in the next adventure.

Were there any funny stories from the day? Well as we were leaving 2 limos turned up, which was bizarre as we only needed one. Still have no idea to this day.

I am terribly phobic of spiders. Have been since I was a child. They have followed me my entire life so it isn’t surprising that one appeared on my wedding day. As I was sitting down having a glass of champagne and talking to Dennis at our bridal table, my Maid of honour noticed something crawling towards the train of my dress. Being the star that she is, she quickly and swiftly made a run for it used her napkin and scooped it up and went outside and threw it off the balcony. I had no idea! It was a huge huntsman – my most feared of all spiders. I can laugh now! But so glad that she defused that situation.

What advice would you offer to other couples planning their Wedding? My advice for other couples is to enjoy the time! It goes so fast and once its gone, you can’t get it back. Take a moment on the night for just you and your partner. Sneak off and share an intimate drink and be in the moment together.

Favourite moment of the day: Leaving the aisle with my husband’s hand in mine.

What were your Wedding songs? I walked down the aisle to Sleeping at Last – Turning Pages. Our recessional song was The Beatles – All you need is love (I have a tattoo of this song on my foot). Both of these were sung by my good friend Mel Lewin. Our first dance was to Oasis – Wonderwall.

Did you have a favourite vendor/s that went above and beyond? Our photographer and videographer Tim and Ro from Hello Sweetheart were the best. They were so friendly and casual and made everyone in the bridal party feel really comfortable. Dennis and I laughed so much. They nailed the photos and video and everyone still comments on how beautiful the photos are and how lovely they both were on the day.
