LOVE: KATIE + ANDREJ | REAL WEDDING ADELAIDE HILLS SA

SONJA C PHOTOGRAPHY ADELAIDE REAL WEDDINGS

Katie & Andrej met at a gig in 2006 but technically when they were seven years of age in primary school. After 5 years together, Andrej proposed to Katie in Florence, Italy.

"I had jokingly said to Andrej - 'Are you planning on proposing while we are over here in Europe?' Little did I know, he WAS planning to but had to change some of his plans due to my snooping." Katie giggles, as she tells of the lead up to the proposal.

"We chose our venue because we both love low key and relaxed settings as we are like that ourselves. We wanted it to be in a relaxed country context while still being close to our hometown. The flowers we had were a mix of Australian natives and wildflowers (hand picked in the Adelaide foothills) and other classical flowers such as Dahlia’s. The general colour palette was focused on cool tones such as mocha, lilac and dusk. The bridal style was somewhat whimsical and new romance influenced. The local environment inspired our overall look of our Wedding.

From the light airy location to the d-floor action which went the majority of the night it was all fantastic. The food at Maximilian’s is second to none and was definitely a highlight for many of our guests. The photography produced by Sonja was perfect, she is a wonderfully talented person.

We honestly loved all of it." Katie says.
Were there any funny stories from the Wedding? Andrej is Bosnian and Serbian, and I’m Australian (with Irish and Polish roots). The mix of these families influences made for some funny stories. When we all got up to dance to a traditional Serbian dance called the Kolo none of the Aussies knew the steps but we all came together anyway to have some fun with it. Also passing around the Serbian liquor called Rakija was an interesting moment for every guest who was obliged to take a swig of it, and yep its really really strong. Made for an interesting night.

Tell us about your dress: I am pretty relaxed about this type of thing. I found a dress online from Needle and Thread, a London based label. I fell in love with it instantly, ordered it online and the rest is history. I was very fortunate to have so much luck but I knew when I laid eyes on it that was the dress of my dreams. So I only looked and and tried on the one dress.

Favourite moment of the day: There are no singular favourite moments however the speeches were amazing. Andrej’s brought tears to the entire room and was a moment that will not be forgotten.
Do you have any advice for other couples planning a Wedding? Try not rush your engagement. We weren’t stressed at all because we were able to give ourselves plenty of time. This allowed us to book all of our first choice vendors and Wedding venue.

Did you have any stand out vendors for the day? Someone that went above and beyond? They all went above and beyond and were highly communicative throughout the entire process. However a special nod to the exceptional florists at Twig who honestly read our minds and definitely went above and beyond for us, We are in love with our flowers from the day and would highly recommend them to anyone planning a wedding in South Australia. Sonja was also an amazing photographer who was funny and friendly, making our time spent with her an absolute joy. Not to mention her final product was exceptional and just what we were looking for, thanks again Sonja.

What does marriage mean to you? Marriage to me, is meant to be fun! You should be laughing together, supporting each other, and never forgetting that you are one anothers' best friend. Get up to mischief with each other and go on many amazing adventures. You are only here once, spend it with your best friend!" Katie says.
