MELBOURNE COUTURE BRIDAL DESIGNER AUSTRALIA
Melbourne based bridal gown couture designer Vasiliki Couture began dabbling in Bridal Couture years ago when her cousin got married and asked her to design her Wedding dress along with the entire bridal party. "Back then, I was designing and manufacturing high-end ready to wear collections and selling them to stores in Melbourne. Manufacturing in Melbourne though, was winding down as factories were moving offshore, so I too was at crossroads as to where to take the business.

I already had the Couture background having studied at L'Esclusiva school of couture fashion in Italy, so the transition was not an enormously challenging one for me and I decided to focus on Bridal. I then became even more involved after purchasing my beaded lace from a fabric store in Melbourne for my own Wedding dress and I haven’t looked back!" Vicky tells.

The most fulfilling part about the design process of a Wedding gown is the transformation from a basic cotton toile dress into a stunning silk wedding dress. I keep an eye on international trends and techniques but most of the time, ideas come to me when sourcing laces.

Throughout running my own Bridal Couture design business, if I talked about my main challenge, I guess that would be working from my small studio in Brunswick whilst trying to take the business to the next level. The new location of our studio has now been determined and locked in but it will take a little time before I relocate. Once that is done, then the focus will be about growing the business. Finding the right team that can help me accomplish this.

"My focus over the years, has been on building word-of-mouth credibility and utilising social media platforms like Instagram. Both of these have been highly beneficial to me." Vicky - Vasiliki Couture

Brides that are just beginning their search for the perfect Wedding gown - this is for you. It is always wise to do your research on Wedding gowns and try on some different styles in order to determine which one compliments your shape. You need to be realistic about your budget depending on how elaborate the garment is and what lace (if any) is used.

Custom made gowns are made to fit that particular client as opposed to off the rack dresses with generic sizing that then need to be altered. Keeping in mind that Bridal alterations are not cheap as you are working and re-adjusting a pre-existing completed garment.

For several years now, I have thoroughly enjoyed creating the Wedding gown that is exactly what my clients want. I do not have space to store collections. This has been the most practical way to manage my business from my small studio. Managing a large number of clientele has meant that any space I do have, has been used to store their garments.
