Rachel, a Gold Coast based bridal stylist + founder of aurum bride has a decade of experience styling brides-to-be and creating their makeup look. "It is such a privilege for me to be a part of a bride’s preparations. I’m largely focused on delivering a significant service - I understand the importance of a wedding day and being attentive to the smallest details on the day. Going above and beyond the scope of what I am booked for makes for a flawless, relaxing and memorable experience. I do what I do because I love making brides not only feel beautiful, but really looked after too." Rachel shares.
how and when was aurum bride born?
I haven’t always been a makeup artist and hair stylist. The first thing I studied when I completed high-school was Interior Technology which lead me to drafting and design advisory roles in the construction industry. It was during the global financial crisis (GFC) that I decided to take a leap of faith and study makeup and hair which was something that I always wanted to do but didn’t think it would be possible to make a career out of. I was happy to prove myself wrong; I’ve now been working as a hair and makeup artist for 10 years and am looking forward to another 10!

is there a story you would like to share from your experiences?
I have so many incredible experiences that I could draw from, but there’s one that always comes to mind first. I did a male makeup for a father of the groom. He had hundreds of scars from melanoma surgeries all over his head, face and arm from being a truck driver and unfortunately was terminal. When he saw himself he cried tears of happiness. I can usually hold it together but I couldn’t for this sweet man. I loved that he was now looking forward to having his photo taken with his son, because he no longer “looked sick”

advice:
Contact makeup artists that have a style that best mimics what you would like for yourself. Makeup itself isn’t permanent but your wedding photos are forever so ensure you choose a makeup artist that you love the work of, that is similar to the style you are wanting and importantly – an artist that you gel with.

do you have a prediction for any upcoming 2020 bridal makeup styles?
I’ve seen a lot of luminous skin, minimal lashes and natural earthy looks for 2019 which are timeless and I can see that they will continue well into 2020 but I think we can expect to see some bolder warm eye shadow colours for the more confident bride.

what keeps you inspired along the way?
Perhaps three things come to mind immediately as I believe inspiration can be found almost anywhere. I have a love of the arts so I tend to draw a lot of inspiration from painters and designers. Secondly, my husband that cheers me along and really believes in my talent. Lastly, that feel good moment when a bride see’s herself made up for the first time and you know she couldn’t be happier.

tell us about the best part about what you do:
It’s quite simple, I love making bride’s feel amazing. Makeup as a medium has such an incredible power to bring out both confidence and beauty, and I am so lucky that I get to share this with a bride on her wedding day. It’s very special to me.
